Car Hire in Zagreb
Frequently Asked Questions
We take the stress out of hiring a car in Zagreb, so you can look forward to your trip to Croatia. In a matter of seconds, we compare prices across a great choice of cars, from national and international brands (including Oryx, Avis and Sixt). Whether you want a family-sized estate, a spacious people carrier or a stylish convertible, you are sure to find your ideal car on our site. You can even filter the listings to find exactly what you are looking for. Don’t forget: many of the great deals on our site are exclusive to us, but if you do find the same car with the same supplier cheaper elsewhere, we will beat the quote as part of our Best Price Guarantee.
Certain car hire companies sometimes have special offers on their cars, where you could get a guaranteed make and model or additional drivers included in the rental price. Thrifty and Hertz are just two of the brands who supply cars with such offers. Any deals will be clearly stated when you are looking through the listings. However, we know there is more to good value than special offers — you also want to be sure the company is one you can trust to provide a great rental experience. To help you decide who to rent with, we ask previous customers to rate and review the company who supplied their car.
Plitvice National Park: A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, Plitvice National Park is one of Croatia’s most popular tourist attractions. This geological wonder has been formed over thousands of years by the waters of two converging rivers flowing over chalk and limestone, and depositing travertine barriers. These natural damns have in turn created a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls — and one of the most stunning natural wonders you are ever likely to see. Situated at the top of Croatia’s Adriatic region, this truly breathtaking location is a two-hour drive from Zagreb.
Varaždin: Around 90 kilometres from Zagreb is one of Croatia’s best-kept secrets. Untouched by mass tourism, the beautiful city of Varaždin has inexpensive cafes and restaurants, unique museums, a majestic medieval castle and one of Europe’s finest collections of intact Baroque buildings. Known as ‘Little Vienna’ amongst Croatians, the city has a traditional feel due to the lack of tourists.
Andautonia Archaeological Park: Less than 16 kilometres south-east of Zagreb, the small town of Šćitarjevo is home to the Andautonia ruins. The 2000-year-old remains of the ancient Roman Township provide a fascinating insight into how truly wide-reaching the Roman Empire once was. Although archaeologists are still excavating the sight, visitors can view the Roman city: including parts of the main street, the city baths, colonnades and side streets.
- In Croatia, between the end of October and the end of March, dipped headlights should be switched on at all times, even during the day.

- According to Croatian law, you must keep a first aid kit, high visibility vest and warning triangle inside your car at all times. Make sure the car hire company has provided all of these before you drive off.
